3 Things to Check Before Your Next Road Trip

I hope you’re enjoying this great summer weather and getting lots of weekend trips away. Road trips are a great way to travel because you can be as spontaneous as you want, go wherever you please and take as many pit stops as necessary. But with longer car journeys, the importance of checking a few simple things in your car becomes more important than ever. Is there anything worse than finding yourself broken down in the middle of no where, with no garages nearby when you’re supposed to be enjoying a special holiday away? I think not! Spend a few minutes taking a good look at your car a few days before you head off so you have time to book in anything you may require before you leave.

1. Check the Tyres
The tyres are the point of the contact with the road, so they get a lot of wear and tear. A flat or blown tyre can be a disaster, but you know what could be even worse? Tyres without enough tread can be downright dangerous, especially if the road conditions are less than optimum. TyrePlus offer mobile tyre fitting so you can get your tyres sorted, well fitted no matter where you are. Once you’ve considered the pressure and health of your tyres, make sure they’re properly filled with air in order to be safe for your entire journey.

2. How’s the Oil?
When was the last time you took your car in for a service? If you can’t remember, then it’s probably time. If you’ve had it done somewhat recently, be sure to check where your oil is sitting to see if you need to top it up. Running out of oil can wreck havoc on your car and cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, so it’s much better to be safe than sorry!

3. Check Your Insurance Policy
Are you up to date with your insurance payments? If someone else is going to be sharing the driving with you on the road trip, are they covered by your insurance policy? Having an accident, no matter how minor the outcome, isn’t ideal, but it can be a LOT worse if you are not properly covered and find yourself carless or in substantial debt. Check ahead, be smart and you’ll be able to enjoy your road trip holiday without feeling anxious!
