5 Beach Essentials – Don’t Leave Home Without Them!

For me beaches are summer. A summer holiday doesn’t feel like a holiday without at least one trip to the beach. I love reading on a big beach towel while getting a little sun. I enjoy running into the waves and feeling them crash around me. I love eating fish and chips on a grassy patch near the beach. Some of my fondest memories are from adventures with friends or family at a beach. I decided it would be fun to write a list of my top 5 beach essentials to get you excited and inspired for summer – and don’t worry, we still have a couple of months of beach weather!

1. Sunscreen
I like getting some sun, but I definitely don’t want to get cancer. I’m very vigilant with my sunscreen application ensuring I reapply after entering the water or after the time frame specified on the bottle. Forgetting to reapply is almost as bad as not applying at all. If you’ve ever had a bad sunburn, you know how painful it can be and how damaging it really is for your skin. Never heard to the beach without sunscreen!

2. A Giant Beach Towel
Sand is pretty, but it sucks when it gets in all your things, in places you really don’t want it to be and all over your food. Gross. I personally love oversized beach towels because you can even share them with a friend or loved one, and it provides enough space to even put your valuables on the towel too so you don’t get sand stuck in your phone’s speakers. Learn from my mistakes, and get a big beach towel!

3. An Amazing Book
When I go to the beach, I tend to stay all day, or at least as long as I can. I love reading a book while laying on the beach. I personally like to take a Kindle ebook reader, because the paper white version is soft on my eyes, light weight, and easier to hold than a traditional book when I’m laying on my back. But according to research by Opodo, three in four Brits prefer reading paper books. Who would have thought?! Want some new book inspiration? Check out the Top 10 books to read this summer according to Opodo.
4. A Bluetooth Speaker
Speakers are so small and portable these days, many of them have amazing battery life and are so easy to pop in your beach bag. Make sure it’s fully charged and that you have downloaded a few good Spotify playlists, just incase the signal’s not so good at the beach. There’s actually not many things in life better than listening to good music, with great company while looking at a beautiful beach!

5. Change for Ice Cream
It’s a family tradition that whenever we visit a beach, we grab an ice cream. There’s something so refreshing about enjoying a delicious, sweet ice cream while cooling down from the day’s rays. Keep some change handy in case an ice cream truck drives past!
