Well it’s official, winter has officially hit the Northern hemisphere and we are now in the month of Christmas. There is something so exciting about the month of December, as Christmas displays fill the shop windows, the smell of fresh pine fills the air, and everything is lit up with Christmas lights. One of my favourite things about a winter Christmas is the good old past time of ice skating and the UK has some amazing rinks.  Flybe have a range of domestic UK flights to get you wherever you need to go this Christmas and if you feel like getting your skates on, I’ve rounded up some of my favourite ice rinks all over the country.

Hyde Park, London

This famous London park had turned into a Christmas playground this winter. There will be more than 100 stalls at the Christmas markets for some great shopping but the centrepeice will the beautiful ice rink. With a Victorian bandstand in the middle and surrounded by thousands of Christmas lights, this rink is something from the movies. If you get hungry or thirsty there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby.

Somerset House, London

This beautiful rink is set next to the famous landmark of Somerset House and is rated one of the best ice rinks in the country. For nighttime experience they bring in DJs for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, just to liven things up. If you are lucky you might even get to brush shoulder with royalty.

The Eden Project, Cornwall

In Cornwall you will find the ice skating rink housed by huge domes that are lit up brightly and filled with lanterns. You wont go hungry, as the rinks are surround by stalls selling delicious hot pastries. Or you can even get some edible decorations from the Eden bakery.

Hampton Court Palace, Richmond

Here you can go skating in front of Henry VIII’s Tudor Palace. It gets extremely romantic at night as the palace lights up. There are plenty of pubs to visit in Hampton Court for a post skate dinner and drink with friends or enjoy some mulled at the rink side café.

Royal Pavillion Ice Rink, Brighton

With the Regency Palace as it’s backdrop this ice rink really is a beautiful site. Go for a skate after days Christmas shopping and sit down for a hot meal and drink at the rink side café.

Eyeskate, London Eye

This year you can go ice skating under the famous London eye, one of the UK’s most famous landmarks. The whole area is an experience as the South Bank is filled with coloured lights or take in the sights from the eye itself.
