Looking for an exciting travel adventure? Then you really can’t go wrong with a road trip (provided you know how to drive!). This is a vastly different travel experience that offers something that traditional trips just can’t offer. There’s just something about being on the open road that really invites you to elevate your thoughts and feelings. It’s a type of trip that everyone should have at least once in their life.

Of course, there are different levels of road trip. In this post, we’re going to focus on how to have an all-time great one, one that allows you to sink into everything that’s great about a road trip.

Find The Route

This is a big one. It goes without saying that the route you select is going to have a big impact on the overall experience, so take the time to do your research and find one that really speaks to your soul. If you’re in Canada, then you’ll have a whole bunch of awesome road trips to select from, or you could head down to the United States, which is home to some of the best road trips in the world

Invest in Your Vehicle

You’ll know the importance of your vehicle on a day-to-day basis. When you’re on a road trip, that importance is only elevated. You’ll be in your car a lot, so it’s important that you genuinely enjoy driving it. If you don’t, then you’ll be wishing for the road trip to come to an end by day three. As well as comfort, your vehicle needs to be safe and in good condition, since you’ll likely hit different terrain to what you’re used to. If you’re thinking of getting a new car anyway, then check out some reviews on Edmunds and get your hands on the set of keys before you set off. The road trip will be the perfect way to put your new vehicle through its paces.

Clear the Schedule

All trips should be a chance to disconnect from your everyday life. But we’d argue that it’s even more important when you’re on a road trip. There’s a level of freedom attached to road trips that you just don’t get from other vacation types. So it’s doubly important that you can really sink into all that freedom. And by that, we mean absolutely no work calls. Make sure you’ve cleared your schedule before you set off, and honestly we’d recommend turning your phone on airplane mode for the duration of the trip, except for occasionally checking in with loved ones back home.

Bring a Fun Attitude

Finally, remember to pack a fun and excited attitude! The success of your road trip will depend on the attitude that you bring. If you’re energized, excited to be out there, and open to everything that comes your way, then you’ll be able to fully enjoy all the good moments and take the low moments in your stride. It’s all about having as much fun as possible.
