You may have cooler temperatures in the evening than the day, and if there’s even the slightest possibility of rain, you’ll need to pack a rain jacket.

You’ll also need a good hat, as it’ll be your first line of defence against ticks, bugs, and the elements. Don’t forget sunglasses to keep your eyes protected from the harsh daytime sun.

One of the biggest considerations is your footwear, and flip-flops are a no-no. Instead, you’ll want supportive shoes that will protect your feet and stay attached even if you’re walking all day.

One of the most important things to consider is your base-layer clothing. This is the material you’ll wear against your skin when it’s cold or cooler at night, and can double for either daily wear or pajamas. There are many different synthetic materials such as polypropylene which will wick away moisture from your skin, which keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. By layering your clothes, you can easily make quick adjustments based on what the weather is doing.

You should be prepared to get dirty if you’re camping, so choose a pair of thick pants that are durable and can be worn for tending the fire, cutting wood, cooking, or hiking. If you’re planning to be outdoors during cooler weather, you’ll probably need gloves and ear warmers along with a warm hat. During the warmer months, you can find plenty of well-ventilated shorts and shirts which provide a cooler effect by allowing air to flow through them.

As you can see, while there are many choices for the clothes you’ll wear outdoors, many clothes can be used for multiple purposes. Always check the weather before heading to the great outdoors, and pack wisely.
