If you’re planning a romantic holiday this year, then make sure Greece is on your radar. It combines sunshine and beautiful beaches with age-old traditions. Greece is also home to some of the world’s most spectacular sunsets. I highly recommend sitting with a glass of wine and watching the sun setting over the sea or behind an ancient ruin. Here are some of Greece’s most notable sunsets.

Oia

The village of Oia in Santorini is renowned for its sunsets. Thousands of tourists flock there every year to watch the sun go down over the old village. It can be a little crowded at times and so make sure you arrive early to get a good spot.

Santorini is also home to some stunning beaches. And if you’re looking for a place to stay then consider the beautiful Santorini Villa.

Kritinia Castle, Kritinia

Located on the island of Rhodes, Kritinia is a small and quiet village. Take a picnic up to the castle and watch as the sun sets behind the castle walls and disappears into the Aegean sea. It is calm, beautiful and very romantic.

Keri Lighthouse, Zante

In the old village of Keri, you will find the lighthouse. It perches 200m above the sea, and the views are breathtaking. As the sun begins its descent, the sky turns pink, until it disappears into the Ionian sea. A local taverna provides drinks and refreshments.

Zia, Kos

Enjoy traditional food and Greek hospitality in the village of Zia. Nestled among green forests this small village is also renowned for its sunsets. Many of the local restaurants have roof terraces, which provide idyllic views of the setting sun.

Mykonos

Known for its glamour and hedonistic lifestyle, Mykonos is part of the Cyclades islands. Tourists flock there every year to take in its beautiful beaches and boutique restaurants. It is less known for its sunsets. Head up to Little Venice and watch the sunset from one of the bar terraces.

Milos

Also, located in the Aegean Sea, the volcanic island of Milos is the southwesternmost island of the Cyclades. The island is famous for its statue of Aphrodite, the Venus de Milo, which can now be found in the Louvre.

There are many places on the island to watch the sunset. We recommend one of the many bars. Sit back with a glass of wine and take in the calm, serene surroundings of this beautiful island.

Fira, Santorini

Santorini has become famous for its beautiful sunsets, and there is much debate over the best spots. Fira is the capital of Santorini and is a vibrant and lively town. It also provides one of the world’s best sunsets. View from one of the many bars or take a boat trip and view from the sea.

There are countless beautiful sunsets in Greece and around the world. It is unlikely we could ever agree on the best spot. Sunsets are subjective. They have a romantic and emotional quality. The best is likely to be the one you saw at just the right moment, with just the right person. If you’re still awaiting that moment, then consider Greece for your next romantic holiday.
