If you’re starting to think about your vacation plans for 2019, and particularly want to spoil a loved one with a romantic trip away, consider a trip to Niagara Falls. This Canadian-American destination is close by, which means you won’t have any big jetlag to recover from, and it’s home to a wide variety of attractions and activities perfect for couples. To join the millions of newlyweds and other pairs who head to this part of the world each year, read on.

See the Famous Falls Together

One of the first things to do together as a couple is see the famous Niagara Falls waterfalls. This natural wonder draws millions of people to the area annually and can be viewed from multiple vantage points. For example, one of the most popular options is taking a trip on one of the boats that get close to the base of the roaring waterfalls. On the American side there is the Maid of the Mist, while on the Canadian side you can travel onboard Hornblower Niagara Cruises. Wear the provided ponchos during your trip if you don’t want to get too soaked by the powerful waters of the falls!

A particularly romantic choice when it comes to seeing the waterfalls, though, has to be via the Niagara SkyWheel. This large Ferris wheel (which is actually the biggest observation wheel in all of Canada), is found in the Canadian district of Clifton Hill. Each gondola on the ride is enclosed and temperature-controlled, so you’ll be comfortable and happy to snuggle up with your partner no matter the time of year.

Don’t forget to take some photographs as the SkyWheel does its approximately four rotations, as the landmark provides excellent views of the Falls and the surrounding region. Also, if possible, try to take your ride on the Ferris wheel once the sun has gone done. At nighttime, the fantastic Falls Illumination light show starts (it includes fireworks, too) and is well worth seeing from up high.

Enjoy Fine Dining and Wines

A romantic trip usually has to include lots of good food and wine. In Niagara Falls, you won’t have to go far to find fine-dining options and tasty wines to test out. There are many excellent Niagara Falls restaurants found within top hotels, plus make sure you also go a little further afield.

For example, only around a 15- to 20-minute drive from the center of town is the picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. This area is populated by numerous wineries where you can try local vintages and eat in on-site restaurants, too. In fact, there are more than 25 different vineyards open to the public just a short drive from Niagara Falls, so you’ll be spoiled for choice.

In particular, while you’re in Niagara-on-the-Lake, you have to head to one of the most visited and well-known and regarded wineries in the area, Inniskillin Winery. This long-established business is famous for its sweet dessert wine, called Icewine. Icewine is made using grapes that are frozen on vines during winter and then picked. While you’re at the vineyard, you can taste and buy the company’s creations and learn about how the wines are made.

Have a Peaceful Picnic

Another cuisine-based activity you can do with your loved one while in Niagara is have a peaceful picnic. While there are many great spots to choose from around town, one of the best options is setting yourselves up within the scenic Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. This large public garden is located only about 10 minutes’ drive from the middle of Niagara Falls.

The site has been around for quite a while, having been developed in the 1930s. Today it covers a large area: approximately 40 hectares in total. A top location for a picnic is within the Rose Garden. This garden contains over 2,400 rose bushes. The Butterfly Conservatory is also lovely and features more than 2,000 insects. These creatures come from at least 45 different species of butterfly.

Cap off your trip to Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens with a romantic horse and carriage ride through the park. This will enable you to see everything in a day and have the chance to snuggle up to your partner while you’re at it.
