Travelling is something everybody should do at least once. Whether you plan on going for a few weeks, months, or even years, you should go for it! You’ll broaden your horizons and learn so much about yourself. Money shouldn’t be an issue if you really want to travel: you can travel on a budget. Here’s what you need to know to get it done:

You’ll Need to Keep Alcohol to a Minimum

Wherever you’re travelling, alcohol can take up a huge portion of your budget if you’re not careful. If you’re planning on travelling long term, it’s really easy to overestimate how much money you actually have. That beer you have with lunch could soon add up. If you must drink, make sure you drink local, and don’t drink to excess. It’s dangerous to do so while travelling anyway!

Get Used to Eating Street Food

Eating in restaurants is another huge expense. Get used to eating street food and you’ll save a fortune, as well as get a huge meal for barely any money. Just make sure you pick street food where there is a large number of people, as the food will have been cooked fresher. You’re less likely to get ill this way, so be smart.

Use Comparison Sites

Use comparison sites to find the cheapest flights and transport so you can avoid taking too much out of your budget. Just make sure you don’t get the cheapest flight with the airport that is furthest away, as you’ll need to find a way to get there!

Find the Cheapest Accomodation

You’re going to need accommodation, so have a look to see what you can afford. Read reviews to make sure the atmosphere is what you want. Hostels are best, but some are lively and some are chilled. Make sure the one you go for suits what you’re after. You can also rent a room in somebody’s home, or couch surf.

Avoid Travelling at Peak Times

Going travelling during peak times will not only be more stressful, it’ll be more expensive. Avoid going during the height of summer or the school holidays.

Take Your Own Transport and Accommodation

If you want to make your travels easier, why not take your own transport and accommodation in one? A Fifth Wheels RV could be perfect if you want to travel long term.

Free Activities

There are so many free activities you can get involved in, wherever you go. There are free walking tours and sometimes even free bike tours you can get involved in. You can take yourself to many different places that won’t cost you a thing.
